Michael Porter Jr. could become a name to watch on the trade market if he and the Brooklyn Nets are unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension, according to Michael Scotto.
League executives have reportedly long questioned whether Porter’s timeline aligns with Brooklyn’s rebuilding plans.
While the forward is entering the prime years of his career, the Nets remain focused on developing a younger core and building for the future.
“With Porter Jr. entering the prime of his career and the Nets in the midst of a rebuild, executives across the league have always questioned if their timelines would fit beyond his current contract,” Scotto reported.
If extension negotiations fail to produce a deal, rival teams are expected to monitor the situation closely and explore whether Porter could be available.
“If the Nets don’t agree to an extension with Porter Jr., teams around the league are expected to poke around on his trade availability.”
Porter has played 7 seasons for the Nuggets and Nets. He has averaged 17.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 397 regular-season games.
He has won 1 NBA championship.
