The Washington Wizards continue evaluating candidates for the No. 1 overall pick and are expected to host BYU standout A.J. Dybantsa for meetings with team officials ahead of the June 23 NBA Draft.
Dybantsa enters the draft as the leading favorite to be selected first overall after averaging 25.5 points per game during his freshman season.
The 6-foot-9 wing also led Division I in free-throw attempts, showcasing his ability to attack the basket and generate offense.
Darryn Peterson remains under consideration as well.
The Kansas guard averaged 20.2 points per game while shooting 38 percent from three-point range and is viewed as another strong contender near the top of the draft.
Should Washington choose Dybantsa, many around the league expect the Utah Jazz to select Peterson with the second overall pick.
The Wizards have also met with Caleb Wilson, another highly regarded prospect projected to be selected near the top of the draft.
After winning just 50 games over the past three seasons, Washington is hoping this year’s draft can provide another foundational piece for its rebuilding effort.
