Jalen Duren’s next contract remains one of the biggest questions of the NBA offseason, with league executives offering widely different projections of his market value.
According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, six executives believe the Pistons center deserves a five-year contract worth between $180 million and $230 million.
Others were far more conservative, suggesting four-year deals ranging from $120 million to $157.1 million.
One executive who valued Duren at four years and $140 million explained the reasoning behind that figure.
“It’s more than Kessler got,” the executive said.
“(Duren is) more available and proven. (It’s) in a similar range to Alperen Şengün, who I view as an All-Star caliber center but not someone who is a consistent year-in and year-out All-Star. And (it’s) slightly below (Rudy) Gobert, who is/was an All-NBA defender.”
Duren, 22, is eligible to sign a maximum extension with Detroit, but negotiations remain ongoing.
