LeBron James and Jaylen Brown are teammates for the first time after James agreed to join the Philadelphia 76ers, but their new partnership revives a memorable exchange involving Bronny James.
Brown welcomed the signing on social media with a simple message.
“#throwtheballup.”
Their relationship has remained respectful, although LeBron admitted one past moment involving his son stood out.
“Besides the s— he said about Bronny at Summer League,” James said. “Other than that, we’ve been alright.”
James was referring to a viral moment during the 2024 NBA Summer League, when Brown appeared to say, “I don’t think Bronny is a pro.”
Brown later addressed the attention on X without directly confirming that interpretation.
“It’s a flex to have your son alongside you in the NBA,” he wrote. “Bronny has all the tools around him to be successful. I look forward to watching his growth.”
LeBron indicated he accepted Brown’s explanation and later joked the two would “be alright.”
He also acknowledged that Bronny still had room to develop.
Despite the earlier controversy, James has consistently praised Brown’s game, even arguing the former Celtics star deserved stronger MVP consideration after leading Boston through a challenging season.
Brown responded by calling the compliment an honor.
