Veteran center Andre Drummond has discussed his adjustment to the New York Knicks after joining the defending NBA champions during the offseason.
Drummond was brought in to replace Mitchell Robinson, who departed for the Boston Celtics in free agency.
Robinson’s exit represented New York’s most significant roster loss after Knicks owner James Dolan expressed reluctance to increase the team’s spending into the NBA’s second luxury-tax apron.
With most of the championship roster returning, Drummond found himself in an unusual situation as one of the few new faces in the organization.
“This is the first time I’m the only new guy to a team, so it feels kind of weird. Like, an outcast trying to fit in,” Drummond said. “But the guys are very welcoming. They made me feel very welcome to be here.”
The veteran big man joins a frontcourt that will look to replace Robinson’s contributions while maintaining the team’s established playing style.
Drummond brings extensive NBA experience and a reputation for rebounding, giving the Knicks another option at center.
