Evan Mobley of the Evan Mobley pointed to pace and execution as key issues after the Cleveland Cavaliers dropped Game 6 at home to the Detroit Pistons, a 115-94 loss that pushed the series to a decisive Game 7. Mobley said the response starts with film review and improved tempo.
“I think we got to go back and watch the film. We got to keep the ball moving high and push the pace even more. I feel like we slowed down a little bit and got a little stagnant sometimes, but we got to clean that up, play a little faster and go win this next one.”
The Cavaliers forward also made the message inside the locker room clear after the defeat. The focus immediately shifted toward recovery and a must-win road game in Detroit.
“Go win the next one. Didn’t make it happen today. So we got to recuperate, stay focused, stay locked in, and go steal one at their house.”
Turnovers were a defining problem in Game 6, with Cleveland committing 20 and struggling to sustain offensive rhythm. Mobley pointed to decision-making and simplifying possessions as the adjustment for Game 7.
“I think we got to just make smarter plays, smarter decisions. If guys aren’t open or if it’s not clear, then we got to make the smartest decision and not throw it. Or if the gaps are too small, the lane’s too small, then we got to pass to the easy man, make single plays, and make the simple ones.”
Detroit’s interior pressure, led by Jalen Duren, also tilted the game. Mobley emphasized rebounding control and limiting second-chance opportunities as a priority.
“Just keep him off the boards. I think a lot of his points came from like energy plays on the boards and a lot of long rebounds tonight. So we got to figure out a way to come up with them somehow some way. And then once we get them just push the pace and go downhill.”
Physicality has defined the series, something both teams have acknowledged. Mobley said the Cavaliers must match Detroit’s early intensity on the road, especially after Pistons guard Cade Cunningham’s scoring impact in the series swing.
“Yeah, we got to bring it. It’s game seven, so you got to leave it all out there and come out with a win.”
Mobley also addressed whether fatigue is affecting Cleveland after multiple long series, dismissing it as a factor in the postseason context. He stressed readiness regardless of workload.
“It’s not a factor in the playoffs. You got to be ready for whatever.”
Despite the setback, Mobley pointed to previous road success in the postseason as a reference point for the group’s approach heading into Game 7. He highlighted consistency in identity as the key adjustment.
“Gotta play with energy and force. Pace, ball movement, playing our brand of basketball, honestly. That’s how we’ve been playing and succeeding throughout this year is ball movement and player moving and we got to keep that going.”
The series now returns to Detroit for Game 7, with both teams having split six tightly contested matchups and the Cavaliers aiming to re-establish control through pace, execution, and rebounding discipline.
