Mike Dunleavy Jr. said the Golden State Warriors will evaluate all possibilities involving the 11th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, though the organization is reportedly leaning toward selecting and developing a young player rather than using the pick in a major trade.
According to Anthony Slater of ESPN, team sources believe Golden State would prefer adding youth to help balance an aging roster unless an unexpected blockbuster opportunity emerges.
Steve Kerr also made it clear he would be willing to give meaningful opportunities to a rookie next season.
“Totally,” the head coach said when asked if he’d commit to playing a first-year player.
Kerr added that he has already spoken with Dunleavy about the draft process and expressed confidence that the organization can find a quality prospect regardless of age or experience level.
“I’ve talked to Mike. I don’t know the draft, but he feels really strongly we’re going to get a good player,” Kerr said. “It could be a 19-year-old and it could be someone older.”
The veteran coach emphasized that any rookie would still need to earn minutes within the rotation, but reiterated the franchise’s commitment to player development.
“That guy has to play. He’s got to earn it. But we’re committed to the development of our young players.”
