VJ Edgecombe delivered a historic performance in Game 2, helping the Philadelphia 76ers defeat the Boston Celtics while setting a new milestone.

He became the youngest player ever to record a 30-point, 10-rebound game in the playoffs, surpassing Magic Johnson, and was the first rookie to reach those numbers since Tim Duncan in 1998, according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN.

Reflecting on his performance, Edgecombe pointed to the team’s trust and ball movement.

“I’m going to be honest, I think we all knew where the shots were going to come from,” he said.

“ … Everyone can make a play on the court, so we kept trusting each other and I was in the spot and they wanted me to shoot the ball.

“It wouldn’t have been right if I didn’t shoot the ball, so I had to shoot the ball, hit wide-open shots and try to get my teammates assists.”

As Tony Jones of The Athletic noted, the game showed the same composure and consistency VJ Edgecombe has displayed throughout his rookie season.

Edgecombe has played 1 season for the 76ers. He has averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 75 regular-season games.
