When the Philadelphia 76ers added Paul George, the idea was for him to slot in as a third star alongside the team’s core, Gina Mizell of the Philly Inquirer writes.
In Game 2, that role still applied, but the hierarchy looked different than expected, as Gina Mizell of the Philly Inquirer noted, with VJ Edgecombe stepping into a leading role in place of Joel Embiid.
George leaned into a stabilizing role, focusing on keeping the offense organized and responding when momentum shifted.
“That’s kind of the role I’ve adjusted to,” the veteran forward said.
“Making sure [if] they go on a run or we need a good basket or a good look, I think I can get my shot off or I can still create and find people and put us at ease. It’s just kind of be the guy that can settle us down a little bit when we need it.”
George has played 16 seasons for 4 teams, including the Pacers and Clippers. He has averaged 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 945 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 9 All-Star games, and has won 1 Most Improved Player award.
