The Los Angeles Lakers assured star guard Austin Reaves to stay after hearing speculations in negotiations with the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The 28-year-old is set to sign a four-year extension worth $185 million with the Lakers, which makes the biggest amount for an undrafted player.

Meanwhile, Iman Shumpert questioned Reaves’ extension due to its defensive issues that make a gap for the Lakers’ backcourt.

“I thought it was odd that you signed with that much money to sign a guy that you know was having issues defensively. We all knew that,” Shumpert said on ESPN about the Lakers giving Reaves the max contract.

Although the Los Angeles backcourt, along with Luka Doncic, is known as one of the best offensive players, they are also known for their lack of defense.

Fortunately, Marcus Smart filled the loophole, helping them sustain their winning run, but they now looked forward to a healthy roster for the upcoming season.
