Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom has resolved his DUI case through a deal with prosecutors that could eventually reduce the charge.
According to court records reviewed by The California Post, Odom pleaded no contest Tuesday in Las Vegas to one misdemeanor DUI count. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed the speeding and improper lane change charges.
If Odom completes several requirements over the next three months, the DUI charge will be reduced to reckless driving.
He must avoid further legal trouble, complete DUI school and a victim impact panel, pay a $1,000 fine and perform 67 hours of community service.
Court records also state that if he “picks up a new DUI during this case, or is arrested or cited for Driving with a Suspended/Revoked License,” he will be sentenced to 180 days in jail.
“I think it was a fair resolution given the facts of the case,” Odom’s attorney, Kevin Coburn, told KSNV.
The case began after Odom was stopped by Nevada State Police on Jan. 17 for allegedly driving more than 100 mph in a 65 mph zone. Officers reported smelling marijuana and said he failed field sobriety tests.
The ex-player later said he began a long-term sobriety streak in the days following the arrest.
