Jack Draper has received support from Andy Murray ahead of his latest comeback from injury next week.
Former British number one Draper had enlisted the help of three-time grand slam champion Murray as a coach for the grass court season, but after a successful run to the last four of an ATP event in Eastbourne, the 24-year-old was forced to pull out of Wimbledon.
A recurrence of bone bruising in Draper’s left arm denied him the chance to play at his home major and appeared set to end his brief coaching relationship with Murray, but the retired Scottish player has joined his British compatriot in America to boost his upcoming return to action.
Draper, who made the US Open semi-final in 2024, has managed only a handful of tournaments since he first stepped away from the ATP Tour 12 months ago with an arm issue.
A return in February, after a brief appearance at last year’s Flushing Meadows, was followed by knee and shoulder problems before his next comeback at the ATP 250 in Eastbourne sparked another absence due to his left arm.
The latest comeback for Draper occurs in Washington after he was handed a wild card to enter the DC Open, which begins on Monday.
Murray is set to support his protege after footage emerged online of the two-time Wimbledon champion watching Draper during training.
Draper had stated before he was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon that he hoped to extend his partnership with Murray.
