Klay Thompson hits back at Warriors criticism

Klay Thompson has officially joined the Miami Heat, but the veteran guard is still defending his accomplishments from his championship years with the Golden State Warriors.

The discussion began after the “Swishlist Podcast” shared an Instagram clip comparing Thompson’s career résumé with Ray Allen’s.

One fan argued that Thompson had never been a first option, while Allen spent much of his early career as a leading player.

Thompson responded by pointing to his role on Golden State’s championship teams.

“You do realize I was the 2nd leading scorer on two championship teams without KD? You want me to go to a bad team and put up empty stats, that’s easy buddy,” Thompson wrote.

He followed with another response highlighting his production during Golden State’s 2016 playoff run.

“Holy s*** I led the 2016 playoffs in points scored you casuals 😂.”

Thompson’s comments pushed back against the suggestion that much of his postseason success resulted from defenses focusing more heavily on teammates such as Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

The exchange came shortly after Miami officially announced Thompson’s signing on Monday.
