Jalen Duren’s All-NBA Third Team selection has directly reshaped the financial framework of his next contract, positioning the Detroit Pistons center for a maximum extension as he approaches restricted free agency.
The All-NBA teams were officially announced on Sunday, May 24, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Luka Doncic, and Cade Cunningham headlining the First Team.
Duren’s inclusion on the Third Team places him among the league’s top 15 players this season alongside Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Jalen Johnson, and Chet Holmgren, marking a major contract threshold under the NBA’s current collective bargaining rules.
The award has immediate salary implications because it elevates Duren into eligibility for the highest designated rookie-scale extension tier, as noted by Keith Smith. That tier allows a five-year maximum contract with Detroit projected at approximately $287.1 million, tied to 30 percent of the salary cap.
Without All-NBA qualification, the ceiling for a Pistons extension would have been significantly lower, with a previous framework closer to a five-year structure worth about $239.3 million. A move to another franchise would also reduce his maximum value to a four-year deal projected around $177.4 million.
Duren, 22, is currently completing the final season of his four-year, $19.5 million rookie-scale contract. He is now set to enter restricted free agency this offseason, giving Detroit the ability to match any competing offer sheet.
The Pistons finished the 2026 regular season with a 60-22 record, securing the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Duren’s interior presence has been central to their defensive identity and rebounding structure throughout the year.
