Shai Gilgeous-Alexander believes Oklahoma City needs to do a better job creating offensive opportunities for Chet Holmgren after the big man finished with just 10 points on eight shot attempts in Sunday’s loss, according to Dave Martinez of The Oklahoman.
Gilgeous-Alexander explained that the Thunder have to place Holmgren in situations where he can better take advantage of his offensive skill set instead of allowing him to become too easy to neutralize.
“Chet’s an easy target to find,” he said, “so probably just like find him more in the dunker, when he’s spacing, just put him in better positions to use his strengths as an offensive talent.”
Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic notes that Oklahoma City usually relies on its overall talent and offensive versatility to overwhelm teams, but that formula has become much harder to execute in this series.
The absences of Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell disrupted the team’s offensive structure, and several players struggled after being forced into expanded scoring and playmaking responsibilities, preventing the Thunder from finding their usual rhythm and cohesion.
