Dwight Howard is adding another destination to his lengthy basketball career, with the former NBA star preparing to play in Georgia.
The 40-year-old center will join Black Fortress Tbilisi in October as the club prepares for its first season in Georgia’s top basketball division.
Black Fortress earned promotion after winning the country’s second-tier championship.
Howard confirmed the move on social media and joked about the connection between his new destination and the U.S. state where he was born.
“Georgia, here I come! I don’t mean my hometown of Atlanta. Just wait for October, when we’ll set the court on fire with Black Fortress,” Howard said.
Financial terms and the length of Howard’s agreement with the Georgian club have not been revealed.
The move continues an unconventional post-NBA chapter for Howard.
He last appeared in the league with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022 before taking his career overseas, including stops in Taiwan and other competitions in Asia and Dubai. He also played in the BIG3.
Howard recently entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame following a decorated NBA career.
The former No. 1 overall pick was an eight-time All-Star, five-time All-NBA selection and three-time consecutive Defensive Player of the Year.
