Julius Randle believes his contrasting offensive style should pair well with Michael Porter Jr. as the Brooklyn Nets attempt to improve after a 20-62 season.
Randle arrived in Brooklyn from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a four-team trade and will take on a major offensive role alongside Porter, who averaged a career-high 24.2 points per game for the Nets last season.
“It’s gonna be great,” Randle told Gabriel Martins, via ClutchPoints, when discussing his fit with Porter. “You know, we’re two completely different players, as far as like style of play. And I think we actually complement each other very well.”
Randle specifically pointed to the difference between his ability to create off the dribble and Porter’s value as a perimeter shooter.
“I can do a lot with the ball off the dribble, creating. And he’s a great catch-and-shoot guy who can really space the floor. So I think we’ll complement each other very well.”
The numbers support the distinction Randle described. He averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 79 games for Minnesota last season, shooting 48.1% from the field while attempting 15.3 shots per game.
Randle has also developed into a secondary playmaker throughout his career. He has averaged 3.9 assists over 12 seasons and recorded at least 4.0 assists per game in six different seasons, including five per game in 2025-26.
Porter brings a different offensive profile. He averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 52 games last season, shooting 46.3% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range.
The 28-year-old attempted 9.3 three-pointers per game, giving Brooklyn a high-volume perimeter threat who can operate without dominating the ball. His 85.9% free-throw shooting also reflected the efficiency he brought to his first season with the Nets.
That combination could allow Randle to create advantages with the ball while Porter occupies defenders on the perimeter. Randle’s ability to attack, pass and score inside can force defensive help, potentially creating opportunities for Porter as a catch-and-shoot option.
Brooklyn’s projected starting lineup also includes No. 6 overall pick Mikel Brown Jr., Egor Demin and Day’Ron Sharpe, giving the Nets a young supporting group around their two primary veteran scorers.
Randle enters the season with 789 regular-season games and three All-Star selections on his résumé, while Porter is coming off his highest-scoring season in the NBA.
