Donte DiVincenzo of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been officially diagnosed with a ruptured right Achilles tendon after an MRI, the team announced.

Shams Charania of ESPN first reported the tear, which occurred in the first quarter of Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets.

The team said DiVincenzo will undergo surgery Sunday in New York, performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley. He had started all 82 games this season, averaging 12.2 points while providing strong two-way play.

According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, the Wolves felt both disappointment and pride after Game 4 – losing DiVincenzo and Anthony Edwards (knee injury) but still taking a 3-1 lead.

“Just proud of the guys, stepping up, fighting for each other – literally and figuratively,” coach Chris Finch said. “These teams don’t like each other, there’s just no secret … It’s how it goes.”

“I think they’ll be with us,” Naz Reid added. “They understand. We understand … We gotta go out there and do what we gotta do.”

DiVincenzo is entering the final year of his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer unless extended.
