Dr Crokes have qualified for the Senior Club Football Championship final.
In Castleisland they got the better of Na Gaeil on penalties after a 1-25 to 2-22 draw.
Na Gaeil goaled in the opening minute, Dan Goggin netting after 36 seconds. Na Gaeil also had the first point. They led 1-3 to 0-2 after 6 minutes. Crokes had the next 3 points to move within 1 by the 10 minute mark; 1-3 to 0-5. Micheal Burns then brought the sides level. Na Gaeil had registered 5 wides by this stage. Burns’ 3rd point put Crokes in front. Dan Goggin pointed Na Gaeil level, and Darragh Reen put them ahead at 1-5 to 0-7. Cian McMahon pointed the equaliser just shy of the half-time. At the break it was Crokes 0-8 Na Gaeil 1-5.
With Crokes leading 12 points to 1-6 after 10 minutes of the second period a Na Gaeil goal by Oisin Maunsell made it a drawn game. Crokes were ahead 0-15 to 2-8 with 9 minutes to go. Cian McMahon doubled their advantage. Fergal Barry cut the gap in half with a fisted point with 2 minutes remaining. A Darragh Carmody 2 pointer had Na Gaeil in front by 1 at 2-11 to 0-16. David Shaw missed a free for Crokes late on, before Na Gaeil doubled their lead. A Mark O’Shea two pointer drew Crokes level at 0-18 to 2-12. That’s how it finished.
Midway through the opening period of extra-time Crokes led 0-20 to 2-13. Na Gaeil drew level and Fergal Barry pointed Na Gaeil in front at 2-15 to 0-20. Na Gaeil then had Oisin Maunsell sent off. A Tony Brosnan goal had Crokes ahead by 2. Darragh Carmody’s 2 pointer for Na Gaeil meant that at half time in extra time it was Crokes 1-20 Na Gaeil 2-17.
Crokes dominated the beginning of the second period; a Brian Looney 2 pointer followed by points from Cian McMahon and David Shaw. Halfway through the second half it was 1-25 to 2-18. Peter Doyle’s 2 pointer for Na Gaeil had them within 2 points of Crokes. Jack Doyle’s 2 pointer had Na Gaeil on level terms with 2 minutes remaining. That took the game to a penalty shootout.
Crokes won 4-2 on spot kicks.
