Wolves 1 Fulham 1: Cottagers held by basement club despite cool Antonee Robinson penalty cancelling out Mane strike

ANTONEE ROBINSON’S penalty on the stroke of half-time saw Fulham grab a point at Molineux — but their European dreams are now surely over.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Marco Silva’s men who really needed to win to keep any realistic hope of qualifying for Conference League football.

And they were rocking when Mateus Mane powered Wolves into a 25th-minute lead.

But Robinson pulled the West Londoners level when Mane went from hero to villain as he gave away a penalty after catching Timothy Casagne as he tried to make a clearance.

This was the last game at Molineux of Wolves’ eight-season stint in the Premier League following relegation to the Championship.

But they were looking to get off to a flier and Joao Gomes charged forward before slipping through Hwang Hee-chan but he put too much pace on it and the ball ran out of play.

Yet keeper Jose Sa had to make a brilliant save to keep out a firm volley from Alex Iwobi at the far post from a Castagne cross.

But Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno pulled off a super save to keep out a powerful Mane shot that had goal written all over it from distance after charging forward.

For a team with nothing left but pride to play for after a shocking season, Wolves were looking good.

And Rodrigo Gomes had a chance to open the scoring but he fired off target after superbly keeping the ball in play on the left.

The Portuguese winger went close after a powerful run past Fulham defenders — but he hammered his shot across goal and narrowly past the post.

But Wolves gave their fans a rare moment to cheer this season by going in front with a classic breakaway goal.

Hwang Hee-chee got free down the right and laid the ball back for Mane to beat Leno with a thumping effort.

But the hosts had a huge let off when Sander Berge thumped a downward header that bounced just over from corner.

Castagne was then off target after some neat work from Oscar Bobb down the right. is off-target with his effort at goal from inside the box.

Then Sa did well to keep out a Emile Smith-Rowe drive at his near post.

But the Cottagers levelled just before the break after referee Mane missed a clearance and made contact with Castange. The referee missed the incident but after being invited by VAR to go over to the monitor he reversed his decision and awarded a penalty.

Up stepped Antonee Robinson to convert from the spot.

Wolves started the second half strongly and a Yerson Mosquera header flashed narrowly wide.

Adam Armstrong thundered a shot against the post with Leno well beaten after being teed up by a lovely Hwang reverse pass.

Mane almost set up a winner with a lovely back-post cross but it was too far in front of Gomes and Tolu Arokodare.

Harry Wilson had a chance at the death but his long range effort was well over the bar.
