Everton 1 Sunderland 3: Isidor and Le Fee net late on as Black Cats keep European hopes alive at Toffees’ expense

ENZO LE FEE donned a spiderman mask in celebration after threading home the strike that means Sunderland still have Euro vision.

The Frenchman has spent all season as a play-making superhero for Black Cats fans and he lived up to that billing to complete a comeback victory.

Le Fee made the most of terrible defending my David Moyes side – their chances of squeezing themselves into continental football now all but gone – as he forced his 81st minute shot home.

To make the day even more bitter for Moyes and his chewed-up Toffees, sub Wilson Isidor made sure of the victory a minute into stoppage time.

His club climbed above their rivals and into ninth place with one day of what has been a stunning return to the Prem – and could end with a sensational spot in European football.

The entertainment served up in the first half of Everton’s home finale at their new stadium was bang-average and that’s being kind.

United secure win after controversial Bryan Mbeumo goal

Simply stringing more than two passes together was a stretch for both sets of players and Moyes’ side were the bigger culprits.

Up front for the Blues, Beto was the worst of the lot.

The Guinea-Bissau striker may have gone into the game with five goals in his last six games but he resorted to type.

Twice his first touch showed why Moyes must spend serious money on a new hit man for next season.

Early on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall offered him a glorious opportunity via a gifted dispatch but the attacker’s lack of control was an embarrassment.

With a half hour gone Dewsbury-Hall took a pass from Vitalii Mykolenko and the beautiful game threatened to break out.

Except when the ball was played forward to Beto it just got ugly again.

The biggest surprise of all was that Everton still took a 43rd minute lead thanks to Merlin Rhol although there was no actual magic from the German.

He cut inside and let fly but the strike would not have troubled Robin Roefs – except that the ball cannoned off Granit Xhaka  to leave the goalkeeper for dead.

Röhl was officially granted his first goal for Everton but he wouldn’t have been celebrating but for that massive deflection off the Black Cats captain.

Sunderland didn’t have a shot on target during that grim first 45 minutes but no doubt got a rocket from boss Regis Le Bris and they sparked themselves into life.

Jordan Pickford, once a Wearside hero, tipped over from Xhaka’s long – range attempt and suddenly those in front of him were wobbling.

None more so than Jake O’Brien who blundered horribly, his loose pass  the catalyst for Brobbey to dash into the box, hold off James Tarkowski and plant his 59th minute shot behind the England No1.

What was infuriating for Moyes and the home support is that just 60 seconds earlier victory should have been put to bed.

Thanks to another intelligent intervention from Dewsbury–Hall, the best man on the pitch, Iliman Ndiaye was sent clear with the visitors caught cold by the break.

All the winger needed to do as he charged forward was to lay the ball off to the unmarked Beto, a dozen yards out and even he would surely not have blown it this time.

Except it was the French wide man who completely messed up at the critical moment – and from that point his side’s European dreams turned into a horror show.
