As widely anticipated, the Wizards selected AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, adding one of the most highly regarded prospects in recent years to their growing core.

The 6-foot-9 BYU forward entered the draft after a dominant freshman season in which he led all of college basketball in scoring at 25.5 points per game while also averaging 6.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals.

Dybantsa shot 51.0% from the field and established himself as one of the premier offensive talents in the country.

Known for his combination of size, strength, and athleticism, Dybantsa excels at attacking the basket and generating free throws.

He led the nation in both free throw attempts and free throws made, while also showing an advanced ability to score from the mid-range.

Scouts view him as a player capable of creating offense at a high level from day one, though there are still areas of his game that need development.

His perimeter shooting and defensive consistency remain works in progress, but evaluators believe his physical tools and overall talent give him superstar potential.

Dybantsa had long been viewed as the favorite to be selected first overall and immediately becomes a centerpiece of Washington’s future.

He joins a roster that already features Trae Young, Anthony Davis, Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, and Will Riley.
