Ewan Irwin’s second-half kick proved enough to sink injury-ravaged Leeds 14-12 at Headingley and send Warrington into next weekend’s Betfred Super League Grand Final for the first time since 2018.
The visitors slowly cranked up the pressure in the later stages and Irwin’s penalty proved the only score of a pressure-filled second period that shattered the hosts’ dreams of returning to the season-ending showpiece.

Warrington hit back to level shortly before the break after cranking up the pressure by forcing a goal-line drop-out and a penalty before captain George Williams’ short-pass was misjudged by Cooper Jenkins, allowing Luke Yates to twist away and score.
The absorbing action continued at the start of the second half with Leeds first to threaten, Jarrod O’Connor’s short pass striking Cameron Smith, who appeared to be a dummy runner, under the posts.
Warrington for their part lacked the creativity to unduly threaten a resolute Leeds defence, despite Williams’ constant probing, and as the game drifted over the half-hour mark the nerves were becoming plainly evident on both sides.
A penalty awarded against James McDonnell for obstructing Williams gifted Irwin the chance to land his third kick of the night and nudge Warrington two points clear at 14-12 with less than quarter of an hour remaining.
As the Rhinos’ young legs started to tire, Burgess’ men belatedly turned up the pressure, pummelling the Leeds line. The hosts survived but failed to fight their way back into the contest, and it is Wire will await the winners of Saturday’s second semi-final between Wigan and Wakefield.
