Victor Wembanyama was ruled out during Game 2 after taking a hard fall and hitting his head, later entering concussion protocol following evaluation.
The San Antonio Spurs star’s status now becomes a major question heading into the next matchup of the series.
Per NBA concussion protocol, players who display symptoms must be taken out of the game immediately and evaluated in a controlled, distraction-free setting.
A physician is also required to review video of the play before clearing a player to return.
If the diagnosis is confirmed, league rules would prevent Wembanyama from playing for at least 48 hours, putting his availability for Game 3 in Portland on Friday into question.
Wembanyama had just scored 35 points in Game 1 win and was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year on Monday.
He missed 18 regular-season games this year, including all three against Portland, with San Antonio going 12-6 in those contests.
