Victor Wembanyama spent part of last offseason training at the Shaolin Temple in China as part of a specialized program designed to help him become stronger and more physical without sacrificing mobility.
His agent, Bouna Ndiaye, believed traditional training methods would not fully match Wembanyama’s mindset and compared the San Antonio Spurs star’s approach to that of Kobe Bryant.
“The way they think is different,” Ndiaye said. “The way they play, the way they stretch themselves.”
The program focused on balance, body control, and handling contact – key areas for the 7-foot-4 star as he continues adjusting to NBA physicality.
Wembanyama trained under Master Yan’an at the Shaolin Temple, with workouts specifically built around improving his ability to absorb contact and generate power near the basket.
“Power comes from inside,” Master Yan’an said. “You are not a cat; you are a tiger.”
