Victor Wembanyama adding new weapon

As Victor Wembanyama continues to develop into one of the league’s most complete players, attention has increasingly shifted toward what additions he could make to his offensive repertoire.

While the Spurs star already impacts games as an elite defender and has shown the ability to score from multiple areas of the floor, some analysts have pointed to the hook shot as a potential next step in his evolution.

The idea has gained traction because Wembanyama’s extraordinary reach and height could make such a shot nearly impossible to contest, much like the famous sky hook that became synonymous with Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

According to ESPN reporter Michael C. Wright, though, the concept is not new to Wembanyama.

The 22-year-old has already incorporated hook-shot work into his training, including sessions with Spurs legend and Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon.

“He’s got it in his bag,” Wright wrote when responding to suggestions that Wembanyama should seek guidance from Abdul-Jabbar.

“Just isn’t comfortable enough just yet to use it in games. Hakeem Olajuwon told me the kid’s got a jump hook that he’s been working on.”

This indicates that Wembanyama’s hook shot remains a work in progress rather than a move he currently trusts in game situations.

However, given his ongoing development and willingness to expand his skill set, it may only be a matter of time before another offensive weapon becomes part of his regular arsenal.
