The Phoenix Suns are keeping one of their backcourt depth pieces in place for next season.

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto, the Suns have exercised Jamaree Bouyea’s $2.58 million non-guaranteed team option for the 2026-27 season. The move ensures the 27-year-old point guard remains under contract after appearing in a career-high 46 games during the 2025-26 campaign.

Bouyea established himself as a reliable reserve in his first season with Phoenix, averaging 5.7 points, 1.8 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field. He also posted a .506 effective field goal percentage and committed just 0.7 turnovers per contest, giving the Suns steady ball-handling off the bench.

The 2025-26 season marked the largest role of Bouyea’s four-year NBA career. Before joining Phoenix, he had played just 19 games combined with the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks. His previous career high was nine appearances during the 2023-24 season.

Bouyea’s efficiency inside the arc was a notable strength. He converted 53.8 percent of his two-point attempts while providing dependable minutes behind Phoenix’s primary guards. Although he shot 29.5 percent from three-point range, his overall finishing allowed him to carve out a consistent place in the rotation.

Phoenix finished the 2025-26 regular season 45-37, earning the seventh seed in the Western Conference before being swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the opening round of the playoffs. Throughout the season, Bouyea provided valuable depth behind starting point guard Collin Gillespie, who appeared in all 80 games and averaged 12.7 points, 4.6 assists and 40.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

The Suns received balanced backcourt production last season. Devin Booker led the team with 26.1 points and 6.0 assists per game, while Jordan Goodwin added 8.7 points and 2.2 assists as another reserve guard. Bouyea’s return gives Phoenix continuity at a position where reliable depth proved important over the course of an 82-game season.

The franchise has also begun reshaping its roster following the 2026 NBA Draft. Phoenix acquired the 30th overall pick, using it on forward Koa Peat, and added Vanderbilt forward Tyler Nickel with the 47th overall selection. Retaining Bouyea provides another familiar piece as the organization integrates its rookie class into the roster.
