The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Dallas Mavericks 122-106 on Saturday, October 24, at American Airlines Center, securing their first victory of the 2026-27 NBA season. Victor Wembanyama scored 23 points and blocked four shots, while Dylan Harper added 22 points as San Antonio improved to 1-2.
De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle contributed 19 points apiece for the Spurs, who had opened the season with losses to Oklahoma City and Houston. San Antonio avoided its first 0-3 start since the 2008-09 season by outscoring Dallas 30-17 in the fourth quarter.
The Spurs took a 14-point lead into the second half but saw Dallas erase the advantage during the third quarter. San Antonio responded by opening the final period with a 17-5 run over the first six minutes, creating separation and closing out the win.
Wembanyama started slowly, scoring just one point before the middle of the second quarter. He then recorded two alley-oop dunks within two minutes and finished the first half with 12 points. The center ended the game shooting 9-of-18 from the field, adding seven rebounds and four blocks in 29 minutes.
San Antonio’s work on the offensive glass proved important. The Spurs grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and outscored Dallas 25-10 in second-chance points, helping offset the Mavericks’ 51% shooting from the field.
Rookie Sergio de Larrea led Dallas with 21 points off the bench, shooting 9-of-15 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. P.J. Washington scored 12 points, while Daniel Gafford added 12 points and nine rebounds. The Mavericks’ five starters combined for 50 points.
Dallas played without Cooper Flagg, who suffered a shoulder injury during Friday’s win at Indiana and is scheduled to be reevaluated next week. Kyrie Irving also sat out the second night of the back-to-back after returning this season from a 19-month absence caused by a torn ACL.
Despite shooting 51% overall, Dallas could not sustain its offensive production late.
San Antonio will host the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, October 27, while Dallas travels to face the Miami Heat on Monday, October 26.
