Shams Charania said the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to have interest in pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he questioned whether Los Angeles can realistically put together the strongest trade package for the Milwaukee Bucks superstar.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Charania noted that the Lakers already explored the possibility of acquiring Antetokounmpo before the trade deadline.
“The Lakers expressed interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo at the deadline,” the analyst said.
According to Charania, Los Angeles could potentially offer three future first-round picks along with cap space to absorb Antetokounmpo’s contract.
However, he suggested Milwaukee would likely receive stronger offers from other teams around the league.
“If you’re the Bucks, are you just going to trade Giannis to the Lakers for cap space for three first-round picks?” Charania said. “My sense is they’re going to get better in the marketplace than that.”
Charania added that the situation should become clearer over the next several weeks as the offseason develops.
“We’ll know in the next six weeks,” he said.
