Sergio Scariolo once again publicly criticized the officiating from the EuroLeague final after Real Madrid Baloncesto’s 83-88 loss, saying he believes his team “suffered an injustice” following further review of the game.
The controversy surrounding the final against Olympiacos B.C. at OAKA Arena continues to dominate discussion across European basketball, and Scariolo said neutral observers around the sport shared the same opinion.
“Undoubtedly, we suffered an injustice, but what has been impressive is seeing how the entire neutral basketball world in Europe and globally has expressed the same opinion,” the coach said.
“I have tried to review it twice with a lot of objectivity and firmness. Obviously, I have reached the same conclusion as all neutral observers.”
Scariolo added that Real Madrid could potentially take further action regarding the officiating, though he left those decisions to the club itself.
“The injustice has been received. I will not go into how the club will handle or manage that,” he explained.
“I am the coach, I have to be with the team, but I cannot act like an ostrich and put my head in the sand and not recognize it.”
Despite the frustration, the veteran coach stressed that the team must now move forward and focus on upcoming games.
