The Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons open their first-round series on Sunday night at Little Caesars Arena with one notable injury question hanging over the matchup.
Orlando listed Wendell Carter Jr. as available despite a nasal fracture that requires a face mask, while Jonathan Isaac is questionable with a left knee sprain. Detroit has no players listed on its injury report.
Carter’s availability matters because he has been one of Orlando’s most reliable interior options this season, averaging 11.8 points and 7.4 rebounds while starting all 78 games he played.
If Carter is limited, Orlando may lean more heavily on Goga Bitadze and rookie bigs to absorb frontcourt minutes. That would matter against a Pistons team built around Jalen Duren, who averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and shot 65.0% from the field.
Isaac’s status is the other major variable for Orlando. When healthy, he remains one of the team’s best defensive pieces, and his length is especially valuable in a series that could swing on rim protection and switching versatility.
The Magic’s top offensive engine is Paolo Banchero, who averaged 22.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists this season. Desmond Bane added 20.1 points per game and shot 39.1% from three, giving Orlando the perimeter scoring to complement its size.
Detroit enters the series fully healthy and with the advantage of continuity. Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 23.9 points and 9.9 assists per game, while Tobias Harris and Duncan Robinson provided secondary scoring and spacing.
The teams split the regular-season series 2-2, including Detroit’s 106-92 win in Orlando on March 1 and Orlando’s 123-107 win in Detroit on April 6.
