The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to retire Kevin Garnett’s No. 21 jersey on February 28, 2027, according to Dane Moore. The ceremony is reportedly scheduled for the night Minnesota hosts Garnett’s former team, the Boston Celtics, at Target Center.
Garnett spent 14 seasons with Minnesota after the Timberwolves selected him fifth overall in the 1995 NBA Draft out of Farragut Career Academy. He remains the franchise’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, steals, blocks, games played and minutes.
The matchup with Boston would add another significant connection to Garnett’s career. After leaving Minnesota, he joined the Celtics and helped Boston win the 2008 NBA championship, the first title of his career.
Garnett’s Minnesota résumé includes the 2004 NBA MVP award, 10 All-Star selections and eight All-Defensive Team selections, including three First Team honors. He was also named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team and entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.
The No. 21 retirement will formally recognize Garnett as the most statistically productive player in Timberwolves history. His 14-season tenure remains the longest sustained period of individual success in the franchise’s early history.
