The Philadelphia 76ers responded in Game 2 with a 111-97 win over the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Tuesday night to level the series at one game apiece. Kelly Oubre Jr. pointed to defensive adjustments and collective discipline as the turning point.
“We were connected on the defensive end more than anything and then we kind of fixed a couple of the things that we lacked the first game and it turned out to work,” Oubre said. “So now we have to go back to the lab and figure out the little nuances to the game.”
Philadelphia’s defensive approach shifted from Game 1, with Oubre emphasizing resistance against Boston’s physicality. “We didn’t let them try to overpower us. We just stood our ground. We were a little bit more physical in the smartest way possible.”
He also pointed to execution within playoff intensity and communication on the floor. “Guard your yard and protect your teammate if you need it.”
The 76ers limited Boston to 39.3% shooting and forced 13 turnovers, which translated into transition scoring opportunities and momentum swings during key stretches of the game.
Oubre also highlighted the emergence of rookie V.J. Edgecombe, who delivered 30 points and 10 rebounds despite playing through pain. “From all aspects, dude. I mean, the sky is beyond the limit for him,” Oubre said. “To come in his first playoff, his first year in the NBA, his first playoff appearance… super proud of him.”
He credited Edgecombe’s work ethic and consistency throughout the season. “The work that he puts in is showing.”
When discussing his own role, Oubre explained his approach to staying impactful regardless of scoring rhythm. “Nothing has ever been given to me in my life. Nothing’s ever been easy,” he said. “I’m going to get out the mud, figure out how to be successful in any way that I possibly can.”
Boston briefly challenged Philadelphia’s control late in the third quarter, but the 76ers answered with an 11-0 run to regain separation. Oubre pointed to shot selection and confidence as key adjustments from Game 1. “We were not hesitant to shoot the ball,” he said, contrasting it with the previous outing.
On game planning, he remained cautious about revealing details. “This is a series. I can’t give away the nuggets,” Oubre said. “We just tried to be physical, match their intensity, just kind of stay locked in on our huddle instead of worrying about the crowd.”
The series now shifts to Philadelphia for Game 3, where both teams will adjust again after a split in Boston.
