John Konchar has drawn interest from the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Konchar became a free agent after the Minnesota Timberwolves waived him and used the stretch provision on his contract. Minnesota acquired the 30-year-old from the Utah Jazz as part of the trade that sent Josh Green and cash to Utah for Konchar and Cody Williams.
The move was primarily about creating the financial flexibility required to complete Minnesota’s signing of Jonathan Kuminga. Green’s $14.7 million salary was the key outgoing contract in the deal, while Konchar was never expected to become a long-term part of the Timberwolves’ rotation.
Konchar split the 2025-26 season between the Memphis Grizzlies and Jazz, appearing in 56 games and starting eight. He averaged 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 19.9 minutes per game while shooting 47.2% from the field.
His role expanded significantly after joining Utah. In 26 games with the Jazz, Konchar averaged 5.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block in 26.2 minutes per game.
The main concern in his Utah stint was perimeter shooting, as he made only 25.0% of his three-point attempts. For his career, however, Konchar has shot 34.9% from three and 46.9% overall.
Konchar has appeared in 363 NBA games across seven seasons, including 65 starts, with career averages of 4.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists. His value has largely come from his ability to contribute across several areas without requiring significant offensive usage.
Minnesota’s decision to waive him also allowed the Timberwolves to retain Williams, who was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Williams averaged 8.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 67 games for Utah last season, although he shot just 21.4% from three-point range.
