The Chicago Bulls’ head coaching search has added another experienced candidate, with Jerry Stackhouse emerging as a name under consideration as the franchise continues its offseason reset.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Wednesday, May 20, that Stackhouse has “emerged as a candidate in Chicago,” according to sources shared with Jake Fischer and Stein.

Stackhouse’s availability comes after he is expected to depart the Golden State Warriors, where he spent two seasons on Steve Kerr’s coaching staff. His time in Golden State followed a long developmental arc across both college basketball and NBA coaching environments.

Before joining the Warriors in 2024, Stackhouse served as head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores for five seasons. That stretch added NCAA head coaching experience to a résumé already built on NBA playing and coaching credibility.

Chicago’s interest aligns with a broader search process that has expanded across multiple coaching profiles. Fischer reported on Tuesday that the Bulls plan to seek permission to interview Charlotte Hornets assistant Lamar Skeeter and Atlanta Hawks assistant Ryan Schmidt.

Skeeter’s background includes a long developmental path, beginning with the Canton Charge in the G League during the 2012–13 season. He later worked within the Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz organizations, progressing from video roles into a full assistant coaching position over roughly a decade.

He joined the Hornets in 2024 after nearly 10 years with the Jazz, where he worked under Quin Snyder and Will Hardy. His résumé also includes Summer League head coaching experience and prior consideration for NBA head coaching opportunities.

Schmidt brings a different profile, shaped by international and G League success. He has been with the Hawks coaching staff since 2023 after previously leading the London Lions to three championships in the 2022–23 season, along with Coach of the Year honors.

His coaching background also includes work in Canada’s Elite League with the Hamilton Honey Badgers, giving him a varied development-focused résumé that has gained traction in NBA circles.

The Bulls’ search comes during a significant organizational reset following a 31–51 season and a fourth consecutive year outside the playoffs. The front office overhaul has already included the hiring of Bryson Graham as executive vice president of basketball operations, along with Stephen Mervis and Acie Law in key executive roles.

Chicago also dismissed former leadership earlier in the offseason, signaling a full structural reset after years of stagnation in the Eastern Conference standings.

Roster construction is also central to the hiring process, with the franchise holding the No. 4 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Young players such as Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis are expected to be key pieces in the next phase of development.

With Billy Donovan stepping down last month, the Bulls are evaluating candidates who can align development, system structure, and long-term roster planning as the franchise attempts to re-establish itself in the playoff picture.

Stackhouse now joins a widening pool of candidates as Chicago weighs experience, developmental pedigree, and system-building approaches ahead of a pivotal offseason.
