Oklahoma City Thunder’s potential route to acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo has been outlined through recent league reporting centered on salary-cap flexibility and trade structure ahead of the 2026 offseason.

NBA insider Evan Sidery reported on Wednesday, May 20, that Oklahoma City could position itself for a trade by declining Isaiah Hartenstein’s team option. That move would create apron compliance and open a pathway for a major roster transaction involving the Milwaukee Bucks star.

Sidery’s proposed framework includes Milwaukee receiving Chet Holmgren, Lu Dort, and the Thunder’s 2026 first-round pick, while Oklahoma City would acquire Antetokounmpo. The structure reflects a high-value exchange centered on frontcourt talent and draft capital.

Antetokounmpo, 31, is entering the second year of a three-year, $175 million contract that includes a player option in the final season. Multiple reports across the league indicate Milwaukee is expected to evaluate trade options before the 2026 NBA Draft in June.

The Bucks forward continues to produce at an All-NBA level, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists through 36 games in the 2025-26 regular season. His efficiency remains strong, shooting 62.4% from the field.

Hartenstein holds a $28.5 million team option for the upcoming season. He has been a rotational anchor for Oklahoma City since joining and was part of the 2025 championship team, providing interior defense and rebounding in a structured rotation.
