Jaylen Brown admitted he was stunned when he learned the Boston Celtics had traded him to the Philadelphia 76ers.
During his introductory press conference Thursday, the five-time All-Star recalled his immediate reaction to the blockbuster July deal.
“When I first got traded I just threw my phone across the room,” Brown said.
Brown also revealed that Tyrese Maxey was among the first Philadelphia players to contact him.
“Who [reached out] first? It might have been [Tyrese] Maxxey. … He reached out and was like, ‘I know there’s a lot of stuff going on right now, but we [are] excited to have you.’”
Philadelphia acquired Brown in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks and two second-round picks. After spending 10 seasons in Boston, the 29-year-old acknowledged that he is still adjusting to such a significant change.
Brown also addressed his relationship with longtime Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum, dismissing suggestions of lingering tension.
“We won a championship together,” Brown said. “Anybody that you win a championship with, you think that’s what a brotherhood or a lifelong legacy would entail.
“Obviously, there’s ups and downs in any type of relationship, for sure. On my end, there’s nothing but respect. Besides when he plays for the Sixers, I hope he does well.”
Brown also played down concerns about his history with new teammate Joel Embiid, despite their heated moments as opponents.
“It’s been good,” Brown said about Embiid. “Me and Joel been friends throughout the years, have mutual respect. I know he loves soccer, I love soccer, so we talk about that a lot.”
