Jarrett Allen and Donovan Mitchell spoke after Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, where the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Detroit Pistons 125-94 at Little Caesars Arena to secure a spot in the conference finals. The postgame press conference centered on response, leadership, and team identity.
Allen also acknowledged organizational trust, referencing comments from ownership. “Means a lot that the whole organization even from top to bottom has that level of trust in me and he sent me a message before the game as well just stating how important how much of an impact that he believes that I can have on this game and this whole series and it’s motivating.”
Donovan Mitchell added context on Allen’s consistency amid outside criticism. “He doesn’t care. He’s just going to be who he is for us and we know who he is for us.”
Mitchell also highlighted Allen’s reliability within the roster structure. “I’ll follow him into war. You know, I’ll trust every single decision that he makes, every single shot that he takes, every single word that he speaks in the locker room.”
Allen, in turn, credited Mitchell’s leadership through the season’s difficult stretches. “It’s incredible for him to keep us together during those times. So, it’s incredible for him to keep us together during those times.”
He also spoke on the team’s adaptability as the postseason has progressed. “We have different identities when different players are on the court. We’re able to adapt to many different styles of play.”
Allen closed by tying the offense to their defensive foundation and pace. “But when we play that basketball where first we’re getting stops and then everybody’s running, the ball is moving, I feel like we can beat any team.”
