Coby White is staying in Charlotte after agreeing to a new three-year, $74 million contract with the Hornets following his midseason arrival from Chicago.

The Hornets acquired White before the trade deadline in exchange for Collin Sexton and three second-round picks, and the move has now led to a long-term commitment.

With LaMelo Ball no longer on the roster after being traded to Minnesota, White is expected to take over as Charlotte’s starting point guard.

The 26-year-old had attracted interest from several teams ahead of free agency, including the Pistons, but ultimately chose to remain with the Hornets.

White played 21 games for Charlotte after the trade, averaging 15.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in just under 20 minutes per game.

Before the move, he averaged 18.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists across 29 appearances with the Bulls.

A career 36.9% three-point shooter, White gives the Hornets an experienced scoring guard as the franchise continues building its next core.
