It has been nearly a decade since former Clippers big man Glen Davis blasted head coach Doc Rivers.
Davis claimed his ankle injury was misdiagnosed and poorly handled until he left the Clippers.
Speaking with the 2008 champion, he detailed his journey in Los Angeles regarding how his foot was broken and still played through it.
“They shot me up with Toradol every game in the Playoffs when I broke it. I didn’t know it was broken. If I knew it was broken, I wouldn’t have f****** even tried to shoot it up. I would have been like, ‘I’m done. I’m about to get surgery…,” Davis said, per TFU podcast.
After the playoff exit, Davis later found out that his foot was broken the following summer, and resulted he could not get on a team due to a major injury.
““But I played through it. We lost and after that, they didn’t give me an exam… I found out that September, the following summer that my foot was broken. Now I can’t get on a team. I can’t go anywhere… I left there, they gave me the X-rays, the Clippers were like, ‘Oh, they didn’t see anything,” he added.
When the results came up, Rivers tried to reach the big man, and Davis could do nothing but recover.
“When I went to my doctor they were like, ‘Your foot’s broken.’ I was like, ‘What? I thought I just had a bad ankle’… That’s when Doc [Rivers] was like, ‘I’m sorry for you man.’ He didn’t say, ‘Get well’ or ‘You can come train here and get yourself back and I can get you on a G League team. Work your way up. Come play again.’ It was nothing. It was just silence,” Davis added.
The “Big Baby” earned his championship during 2008 with the Boston Celtics under head coach Doc Rivers, as he ranted that he had not been handled pretty well despite the bond.
