French Open: Alexander Zverev wins first set on tiebreak, 7-6 (7-3)

With his serve, Alexander Zverev has an impressive tiebreak record on the Paris clay. A loose forehand from Jodar moves the German two points away, with two points on serve to come.

Zverev hangs tough on the baseline, with Jodar pushing, then pulling the German in with the drop shot. Zverev races to meet it and steer the backhand winner.

Three set points: he only needs one. Zverev finds the first serve and smash. The second seed will take that. A 66-minute opening set after being 5-2 down to the teenager.

French Open: Alexander Zverev saves break points in opening game

Rafael Jodar and Alexander Zverev are underway on Court Philippe-Chatrier. But their opening two games took 17 minutes, with the young Spaniard getting a look at two break points on the Zverev serve.

Jodar, 19, began the year raned 168th in the world. He is making his debut in Paris and is bidding to became the first debutant to reach the semi-finals in Paris since a certain Rafael Naadal in 2005. Jodar has the most wins on clay than anyone this season.

Zverev, meanwhile, is the second seed and now big favourite to win his first grand slam title at the age of 29. The German had a huge opportunity with Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic out and Carlos Alcaraz injured.

Emotional Marta Kostyuk dedicates historic French Open win against Elina Svitolina to Ukraine

An emotional Marta Kostyuk dedicated her victory over compatriot Elina Svitolina to the people of Ukraine after advancing to her first grand slam semi-final at the French Open.

Kostyuk, 23, is the first Ukrainian woman to reach the semi-finals of Roland Garros after winning the final four games of the match to beat her idol Svitolina, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

Kostyuk has won 17 matches in a row and is unbeaten on clay this season. Her opening match in Paris last week came after a missile strike narrowly missed her parents’ home in Kyiv.

A first Ukrainian semi-finalist was guaranteed as Kostyuk played Svitolina, the seventh seed. Last night, at least 18 people were killed in Ukraine after Russia launched a large aerial strike.

French Open: GAME, SET AND MATCH! Marta Kostyuk surges through

That was an amazing final four games from Marta Kostyuk, what a brilliant level.

Kostyuk has now won 16 matches in a row on clay, unbeaten on the surface this season. And at the age of 23, she is through to her first grand slam semi-final. She will play eighth seed Mirra Andreeva on Thursday for a place in the final.

There is a lovely moment at the net as Kostyuk and Elina Svitolina hug. Svitolina has been Kostyuk’s inspiration but is this the passing of the baton? Kostyuk becomes the first Ukrainian woman to reach the final four at Roland Garros.
