Euroleague Basketball, the organization running the EuroLeague, announced Wednesday that it has completed its first evaluation under the new Competitive Balance Standards for the 2025-26 season, a framework that is being phased in before full implementation in 2027-28.
The organization said the review was conducted after the players registration period closed on February 25, with each team measured against the Low Remuneration Level and Base Remuneration Level.
Under the system, clubs that exceed the Base Remuneration Level must contribute to a redistribution pool that is shared equally among the teams that remain within the required thresholds.
For the 2025-26 season, four clubs were required to make payments for going over the Base Remuneration Level. Anadolu Efes Istanbul must pay €1,071,676, Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv €998,027, Olympiacos Piraeus €303,290 and Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens €3,065,691.
That brought the total compensation for exceeding the Base Remuneration Level to €5,438,684. Euroleague Basketball said the amount will be divided equally among the 15 clubs that complied, which works out to €362,579 per club.
The league said the compensation rules are part of a transition period, with payments for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons capped at 10% of total player remuneration before the standards are fully enforced.
Euroleague Basketball also addressed LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, which did not reach the Low Remuneration Level for Regular Season Round 29. The club had already failed to meet the same requirement in Regular Season Round 1.
Because of that, ASVEL must distribute €1,280,924 to its registered players, matching the gap between their season remuneration and the required Low Remuneration Level for 2025-26.
The club was also sanctioned by the Finance Panel for overdue payables tied to the Round 1 shortfall, the required distribution of the corresponding delta, and the failure to provide required documentation.
As a result, ASVEL received a €25,000 fine and a ban on registering players and coaches until the overdue payables are settled.
