The Dallas Mavericks are continuing their search for a new head of basketball operations, and Christian Clark of The Athletic reports that the process includes some complicated dynamics behind the scenes.

According to multiple league sources, Mark Cuban’s backing of Dennis Lindsey may not help Lindsey’s candidacy and could actually make a return to Dallas less likely.

The team is also said to be seriously considering Tim Connelly, though there’s uncertainty about whether he would leave the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In the interim, ownership appears satisfied with the current leadership group.

Governor Patrick Dumont reportedly views the work of co-interim GMs Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi positively, especially their handling of the deal that brought in Anthony Davis.

At the same time, Dallas is once again making adjustments to its health and performance staff.

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reports that director Johann Bilsborough has been let go, continuing a pattern of annual changes in that department.

Previous reports had highlighted friction between Bilsborough and former staff member Keith Belton, who was dismissed last offseason.

Moving forward, the incoming head of basketball operations is expected to oversee the hiring of a new performance director.
