Enes Kanter Freedom is pushing back against reports that he will be ruled ineligible for the WNBA Draft, calling the claims “fake news.”
Several outlets reported Monday that the former NBA center would not be permitted to enter the draft.
One league source told Front Office Sports that the WNBA is “not going to give oxygen to efforts designed to mock the league or use this topic to demean and marginalize others.”
However, Freedom told The Post that he has received no official communication from the league regarding his eligibility.
“I haven’t heard anything from the WNBA officials yet,” Freedom said. “Fake News!”
Freedom and former NBA player Royce White recently declared themselves eligible for the WNBA Draft amid the ongoing debate over transgender participation in women’s sports.
A league source described their declarations as “simply publicity stunts.”
The controversy comes after Freedom was removed from Wintrust Arena during Sunday’s Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever game following a verbal confrontation with Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
Freedom later claimed Cloud shouted at him, “[Cunningham] is not going to sleep with you.”
Despite reports about his draft status, Freedom maintains that the WNBA itself has yet to tell him that he is ineligible.
