The Milwaukee Bucks have added another young guard to their rebuilding roster, agreeing to sign Kam Jones to a two-way contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The move comes one day after Milwaukee reshaped its franchise by trading Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat in one of the biggest deals of the offseason.

Jones, a 2025 second-round pick, will join the Bucks after an eventful first year in the NBA. He was originally selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 draft, traded to the Chicago Bulls on draft night, and later released before finding a new opportunity in Milwaukee.

Jones appeared in 37 games as a rookie with Indiana during the 2025-26 season, making seven starts. The 24-year-old shooting guard averaged 4.4 points, 3.2 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 16.6 minutes per game while shooting 40.2% from the field. He also averaged 0.6 made three-pointers per game on 29.3% shooting from beyond the arc.

Although his scoring numbers were modest, Jones flashed secondary playmaking ability. His 3.2 assists per game ranked second among Indiana’s rookies despite his limited role, while he committed just 1.0 turnover per contest.

Milwaukee will likely look to develop those ball-handling skills further through its two-way program while giving him opportunities with its G League affiliate.

The signing comes as the Bucks continue reshaping their roster following a disappointing 32-50 campaign that ended with the franchise missing the playoffs for the first time in years. Milwaukee finished 11th in the Eastern Conference despite receiving another dominant season from Antetokounmpo, who averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 36 games before being traded.

The blockbuster deal with Miami dramatically altered the organization’s direction. In exchange for Antetokounmpo and Portis, Milwaukee acquired Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakucionis, the No. 13 overall pick Nate Ament, two future first-round picks, a future pick swap and a second-round selection. The trade also created a $25.5 million trade exception, giving the front office additional flexibility as free agency continues.

Jones joins an increasingly crowded guard rotation that already includes Kevin Porter Jr., Ryan Rollins, A.J. Green, Gary Trent Jr. and first-round rookie Brayden Burries. Rather than competing immediately for a regular rotation spot, the two-way contract gives Milwaukee the flexibility to develop Jones while maintaining roster depth during its transition into a younger core.

The Bucks have also focused on retaining and adding frontcourt depth since the trade, re-signing Ousmane Dieng and Jericho Sims. However, power forward remains one of the club’s biggest needs following Antetokounmpo’s departure, making further additions likely before training camp.
