
Billy Donovan is stepping away from his role as head coach of the Chicago Bulls after six seasons, according to ESPN sources.
While the organization expressed a desire to retain Donovan following significant changes in the front office, he held a contract option for next season and chose to step down after holding multiple discussions with team ownership over the past week, sources said.
Donovan ultimately decided it was best to create a fresh start for the franchise, giving the organization flexibility as it conducts its search for a new front office leader and allowing that incoming executive to select the next head coach.
The Bulls made clear that the organization wanted Donovan back after making sweeping changes to their front office, but Donovan held an option in his contract for next season and elected to step down after extensive meetings with team ownership in the last week, sources said.… https://t.co/Bl12AQitgn
