Ben Simmons’ basketball future remains uncertain, but some believe a move away from the NBA could offer the former No. 1 overall pick an opportunity to revive his career.
After battling injuries and spending the end of the 2024-25 season with the Clippers, Simmons is currently a free agent, and speculation has emerged about a potential move to Australia’s NBL.
Former NBA player and Australian basketball legend Andrew Gaze believes Simmons could still make a major impact if he chooses that path.
“If he has the desire, then there’s no doubt in my mind, it’s still a guy in his late 20s that he could play at a high level,” Gaze said.
Gaze also praised Simmons’ unique skill set, comparing his playmaking ability to one of the game’s all-time greats.
He described Simmons as a “superstar” with “Magic Johnson type skills” and suggested the NBL “would be a great platform for him to come back.”
A successful stint in Australia could also strengthen Simmons’ chances of returning to the Boomers setup ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
