Anthony Edwards has publicly joined the LeBron James sweepstakes, even if only in a lighthearted way.

Speaking on Friday, Edwards delivered a direct message to the four-time NBA MVP: “Bron Bron… Come to Minnesota. We got your card man.” The playful recruiting pitch comes as James remains the biggest name available in free agency and the Timberwolves continue to be linked as one of several potential landing spots.

Edwards’ comments arrive just days after Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson reported that the Timberwolves star had not personally reached out to James about joining Minnesota. Robinson added that if Edwards were to make such a call, the Timberwolves would immediately become one of the focal points of the league-wide conversation surrounding James’ decision.

While Edwards’ latest remarks were made in jest, they add another layer to an offseason filled with speculation about where James will play in his 24th NBA season. Minnesota has consistently been mentioned alongside the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors as teams monitoring the future Hall of Famer’s situation.

ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins recently identified Minnesota as the best basketball fit for James if winning another championship is his top priority. Perkins pointed to the Timberwolves’ revamped roster, featuring Edwards, newly acquired LaMelo Ball and one of the NBA’s strongest defensive foundations, as an ideal environment for the 41-year-old forward.

Minnesota enters the new season after finishing 49-33, earning the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference before advancing to the conference semifinals. The Timberwolves were eliminated in six games by the San Antonio Spurs, who went on to win the Western Conference before falling to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.

The organization has reshaped its roster since that playoff run. Minnesota acquired Ball and Josh Green from the Charlotte Hornets while sending Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets, creating additional playmaking around Edwards.

Edwards remains the franchise cornerstone after another All-NBA caliber campaign. The 24-year-old averaged 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 48.9% from the field and 39.9% from three-point range during the 2025-26 regular season. Jaden McDaniels also took another step forward with 14.8 points per game on 51.5% shooting, while Rudy Gobert anchored the defense with 10.9 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per contest while converting 68.2% of his field-goal attempts.

Perkins has argued that James could effectively replace much of the production lost in the Randle trade. Randle averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 79 games last season, while James continued to produce at an elite level with 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds across 60 games for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers finished 53-29, captured the Pacific Division title and reached the Western Conference semifinals.

Minnesota has also retained important depth by re-signing Ayo Dosunmu, Jaylen Clark and Bones Hyland while adding second-round pick Isaiah Evans after the 2026 NBA Draft.

James has yet to announce his decision, and multiple contenders remain in the race. Golden State has reportedly explored ways to strengthen its roster in hopes of improving its chances, while Miami, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Minnesota continue to be viewed as potential destinations.
