Olympiacos will defend its EuroLeague championship without Thomas Walkup after the veteran guard left the Greek powerhouse to continue his career with Dubai.
Evan Fournier spoke about losing his former teammate, making clear that their relationship went far beyond sharing the court.
He also expressed disappointment over the circumstances surrounding Walkup’s exit.
“I’m sad, obviously. I don’t think Thomas deserves what happened to him,” he mentioned. “I know Thomas. I know what this team means to him. I know what we mean to him, the coach, etc.”
Walkup had been an important part of Olympiacos during his years with the club, and Fournier said their experiences together created a strong personal bond.
“That’s sad, because he gave so much to this team. He’s like a brother,” he said on Walkup. “When you spend so much time together, you fight so many battles, and it ends like this, it makes me sad. It’s very sad.”
Olympiacos must now adjust its backcourt without Walkup as the club begins another EuroLeague title chase.
