Olympiacos has identified Dallas Mavericks guard John Poulakidas as a potential future addition, although rival Panathinaikos could also become involved in the pursuit.
The 23-year-old is not expected to leave the NBA immediately. Poulakidas reportedly wants to remain in the United States for at least another season before considering opportunities in Europe.
His Greek roots make him particularly attractive to the two Athens clubs. Poulakidas is working toward obtaining a Greek passport, which would allow him to count as a domestic player and potentially represent Greece internationally.
The former Yale guard has previously discussed his desire to complete the passport process and eventually play for the Greek national team.
For now, his priority remains establishing himself in the NBA. After going undrafted in 2025, Poulakidas joined Dallas on a two-way contract and appeared in 13 games during the 2025-26 season.
He made an encouraging impression in limited action, averaging 8.8 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 42.9% from the field and 40.3% from three-point range.
Poulakidas will continue developing with Dallas during the upcoming campaign, but his situation is attracting attention in Greece.
Olympiacos is already interested, while Panathinaikos could eventually challenge its rival if the guard decides to continue his career in Europe.
